ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Branden Chapin Craig has loved Art ever since she was a little girl growing up in her real life "Fairyland" on Lookout Mountain. “I was constantly surrounded by creativity as a child and decided early in life to pursue my dreams of becoming an artist.”
Branden studied painting and illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design and received her BFA in 2003. She has worked in New York City, Athens, Los Angeles and is currently back to her roots living in the South with her husband and two amazing children, Max and Cozy.
After experimenting with different media and styles, Branden found her true passion to be composing abstracts, both large and small. Largely, her works are color plays, filled with pops of bright pigment, using a process of layering, scraping and layering again.
“My compositions are in a constant state of metamorphosis. When I set out to begin a painting, I have a sense of the design, but I allow myself to stay open to the changes and movement that inevitably take place. In this way, every piece takes on a life of it’s own.”
For this series, the paintings are a celebration of connectivity and growth. Just as every placement of color and texture holds a different memory, the work is also prospective and explores the constant state of flux and expansion that is the lifeblood of a person working through artistic productivity.
